I only cleaned my with a cloth - is there anything else that can be used - down the hole for example?
Mine wasn't overly tight in the hole either - probably tight enough, but just came out really. IS that normal?Mark.

I just wiped it down with a bit of kitchen roll, didn't go poking anything down the hole (so to speak). Although I just cleaned off the external oil it seems to have really helped, which I don't understand as don't see how that has changed things. Maybe then placebo effect works on D3s??
Don't Thats where the actual sensor is, I believe. Poke anything down it and you will probably break it.The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

John, I know that's where the sensor is - which is why that is the bit that needs cleaning if anything - but also that it may be damaged if done incorrectly I was thinking more of a fluid rather than a solid object. But again, fluid could attack the sensor. Though it's probably some sort of piezo electric device, probably covered by a membrane.Mark.

I've used gun cleaner foam on the Air Flow Sensor of past cars to good effect.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
Had the dreaded ESF three or four times this morning whilst towing the tintent.
However, it only seems to happen at 2k revs. I did thibk it was when changing gear, but holoing it in a gear in command shift and it did occur again, but Using command shift and keeping the revs up and it did not occur again, despite some equally steep hills.
Perhaps the dealer is correct in diagnosing faulty EGR valve(s). Will find After it/they are replaced next week.Mark.

Hi there G4JWW: When LR Assist cleaned my MAP sensor he had an aerosol can of what looked / smelt like switch cleaner or something similar, that evaporated almost instantly. He squirted it down the hole of the MAP sensor and shook out the gunge.

OK... another spanner in the works....
I checked the MAF sensor on my 2007 D3 - its got 114,000Km on the clock - and it is clean - just the usual thin oily layer.
... and this is the question... would it be because I use 350ml of two-stroke oil to the tank (75 litres +)?
Cheers

Continuing MAP saga
My D3 has now done 2,000 miles since the MAP cleanout, a third of that with a caravan on the back, no problems at all. It seems the problem is solved.
Another point for consideration, and I don't know how true it is, or how they would find out, but those of you that take your D3s to France, with blanked off EGR valves, I hear the French, possibly their motor vehicle inspectorate or whatever Government body oversees vehicle emissions etc. are passionate about blanked-off EGR valves and anyone caught using a vehicle with such blanked off valves gets a HUGE fine. As I've said I don't know who would look or how they would know (assuming they would even know what they are looking at!!).

Hi DSL,
Yes, 30mpg at motorway speeds whenever possible, and just over 20 mpg with the caravan on the hook at about 60mph (or a little more), and 26-7 round the houses. this is what I used to get when I first got the vehicle 3 years ago.
