Went to fit the spacers but found that 5 of the wheel nuts are swollen and all of the locking nuts are badly corroded.

So, in order to do it properly I've ordered a full set of new nuts. My air impact wrench is rubbish so I'll have to get the garage who builds and fits the wheels to do the whole lot.

Couldn't be bothered to wait so I have ordered the new tyres.

Looked around at all the usual places and Oponeo had the cheapest today at £112 per tyre with free delivery.

Nice 8)

Bought a replacement slide out cup holder from a nice chap on here, took mine apart today and fitted this one.

Removal of the side pop assembly is easy enough, pull upwards and out from the bottom to release the spring clips then remove.

The cup holder has 4 star bits on the back, simply undo, fit new and replace.

Putting the whole air pod assembly back in took some fettling but for no other reason than I was doing it wrong. I found that just lining it up and pushing it back in gently.

Pics below to show you what it looks like etc.

So with an hour or so to spare over lunchtime I decided to tackle the De-Tango job.

Removal of grille and headlamps from the car is so incredibly easy and once off the car and on the bench I removed the two plastic brackets on each lamp. I removed the sidelight and indicator bulbs too (as I am replacing the std indicator with a chrome bulb.

With the oven on and at 90 degrees C, I took out the 4 screws holding the two halves together and then put them in the oven one by one. After 5 minutes I got it out and then used my heat gun round the sides. After about another 5 minutes of doing this I ran a thin screwdriver along the seal edge between the black plastic half and the clear lense to help break the seal, and gently prised the tabs up.

I then put the unit back in the oven for another 5 mins, took it out (nice and hot now and it came apart gradually. You have to be brave!

Once apart I took out ALL the screws holding the various chromed reflectors in place in the clear lense. I wore surgical gloves so that no fingerprints got on them if I slipped. Once all were out I removed the side part with the amber tango bit, and then prised up the main clip holding this on. It came off very easily.

Reconstruction was the reverse, and using the heat gun and the oven to get it all hot and easy enough to put back in a tight seat and the tabs down. Screws back in, then once cooled enough I put the curved brackets back on, leaving the other bracket until I get my new bulbs, as it makes access much easier to the indicator hole.

They will stay off the car tonight, bulbs should arrive tomorrow and then I can put the brackets back on and refit it all to the car.

An incredibly satisfying upgrade that I am hoping will clear up the front end look of the car.

Photos to follow. If anyone wants the amber parts for any reason I will send FOC if you cover the postage.

Hi there, enjoying the thred,
Our vehicle history is running in a strange parallel, I brought your Defender 90 HT. Sold it last week and picked up a 08 disco 3 hse on Saturday.

The Defender gave me two fantastic shoot seasons and was trouble free. Doing more with the dogs now and the working tests and trails involve a lot more mileage hence the D3.
I will continue to watch with interest.

Best regards

Hello again! Very Happy

You know I absolutely regret selling the green Defender. Absolutely loved it and I probably jumped the gun doing so, as I ended up having to buy another after I moved house (which ended up a very different vehicle to yours)

I'm loving the D3 though and enjoying getting it 'ready' for shooting.

The wheels and tyres should be the next things.

Thanks for stopping by Thumbs Up

Glad to hear the slide out cup holder tray is an easy replacement. I accidentally snapped mine off with my knee when my brother was driving mine off road the other week... must have been the nerves!
