Honestly, that picture is a terrible representation of whats going on under the hood....

Give me a minute and i'll go pop the hood and snap a photo.

There's a pic.

It is directly below the snap that connects the upper fan shroud to the lower shroud. It has a garden variety hose clamp securing it to the cooler spigot.

@ cuco

sorry, didn´t saw your post...

I bought the car form a lr dealer with 115 tkm on the clock.
at 125 tkm I changed to ravenol HP6 (drain 4 liters, fill up, drain again, 3 times)
and drove the ravenol for 25 tkm.
now i did change (simpel drain 4 liters) again and it looked like new.

my mindset on this is, that i´d rather change the "cheap" oil more often
than fill in the original. change gearbox oil is no prob fro me, i can do
it in my garage very easy.

two years ago, i didn´t had access to orig. fluid, so ravenol was the available alternative.
I bought 20 liters which i am going to use step by step.

with the enormous difference in price i am really sceptic to ebay dealers that they
really deliver the correct zf-fluid.

my favoite profi for gearbox repairs also uses the ravenol in X3, X5 and audi,
which have also the ZF 6HP26 gearbox. he says, no probs so far.

auto gearbox runs smooth an proper so far with the ravenol.

Just did Filos tranny oil change

I finally got to do my tranny oil gear box change and it went pretty smooth, just wanted to thank Filo and armybuck041 for their help. I've included some pics I took today. This was for a v8, 4.4 petrol LR3. I got about 4.5 liters out and put back in about 4.75 liters. The only part I found a pain in the butt was the checking of the oil level at 40 degrees with my infrared thermometer gun. I managed to burn my forearm on that damn catalytic converter while loosening the fill screw Sad I am going to do another flush in a couple weeks to get the rest of the oil clean.

Red arrow is where oil goes back in to gear box and blue arrow is where oil comes out.

My oil didn't look to bad for 120,000 miles, but after the change I noticed the immediate pickup and better performance and I also seemed to have gotten rid of the lag/pause whenever I gassed it quickly from a slow stop.
Narpy's Grill Mod, Suspension Rods, Ultra guage, wrangler Goodyear duratracs 265/60/18, new thermostat, diff oils changed, brake switch new, aluminum rack floor, LED driving lights in foglights, rear camera, just need gvif unit, next on list! New front arb bushings, new front valve block, 191,000 miles.

In a few days I'm going to drain my auto box, replace the plastic sump with a steel one, and refill with new LifeGuard6 fluid.

In Filo's procedure, he mentioned that he drained the fluid via the oil cooler line by running the car for about 30 seconds. I'm considering using this technique to drain as much fluid as possible from the box before removing the sump.

In some of the fluid refill procedures that I've seen, they mention shifting the transmission into the D and R positions for a few seconds each. If I did a similar thing while draining the box, would this help remove all the fluid ? Is it possible that I'd damage the box by doing this ?

If you remove the sump and you let it sit overnight you should drain the system effectively. You'd almost empty the torque convertor till the shaft as well.
If I recall correctly shifting throught gears is used in the refill procedure when checking fluid level.

Disco3 auto box oil is Shell M1375.4.
If MANNOL Dexron VI meets the same standards as SHELL M-1375.4, then it's ok to Use it on disko3 auto box Smile

Hi,
My question is :
MANNOL ATF AG55 = LAND ROVER TYK500050
MANNOL DEXRON VI = SHELL M-1375.4
Both are the same or one is better than other ?
What is the most appropriate for the Disco3 ?
Thanks
