At Last ! Every penny back on my Clocked D3 !
A story of last 24 hrs ..
Quick background - Bought June 13 ... D3 TDV6 March 06.
So yesterday with help from my friends on here checked if my recalls on the old girl were all up to date
Good news all up to date .... nothing outstanding
Even happier as when I looked at the details, mileage high every year, but appeared well looked after up to 2009
Hang on a minute ..... Then I noticed the recall information read -
12th Nov 09 - mileage 134,269 and some other ones prior are all higher mileage then when I bought her at 112k in June last year....
Out of curiosity ..... Googled 'clocking' and info highlighted to do a MOT history check it read -
MOT check on DVLA website -
5/09 -126,627
2/10 - 80,637
So whoever owned it when the mileage went back appeared to be the owner between those dates, looks like a 50k clock in reality.
Perhaps MOT was 'redone' in Feb 2010 to show the lower mileage (having my detective hat on) then it would match the decription when sold
MOT's after then done annually with 88,95,110k ....
So she has missed some work at the right times as shes really done 176k now
I had the 105k service done when I purchased her in July (when I thought she had done 112k) an 'A' service with belts was done by the local 'Indy' ......
I have looked up all the legalities .... trading standards say you can ask for compensation for the mileage/price difference of the 50k in mileage..... apparently its not illegal to sell a clocked car.... it is however if it wasn't pointed out to you on purchase.
Think the 50k mileage is a £2k gap from what I can find out that would give me an accurate compensation figure to work with. Some good articles on the web for what to do so I'll see how I go.
For those new to the old forum the MOT check is a must as it reads when each were done also lists issues found and also mileage ....
Before you ask it didn't have the history with it when collected.... I know I know ..... but those that know me I had alot on at that time with my health and partners health.... new baby etc and needed a 7 seater v quick .... trusted the garage ....
Went back today and they are looking into it all ... as it is legally there job to check the mileage is ok..... they didn't dismiss it out of hand so we'll see....
Maybe change my name on here to lucky or 2trusting

Someone must have fitted a another instrument pack (second hand) . I believe to do it correctly the new pack would have to be sent to pete at bell auto services to have the correct mileage put in. It would be handy if the mileage was held in more than one place on the vehicle! Sorry none of this helps you. I hope you get something sorted.

Any car can be clocked if required by more than one method. There are companies and individuals on the internet who can come along with a box of tricks and change even electronic speedos and there are genuine reasons that sometimes they need to be changed.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Did you buy it from a dealer? I bought my daughter a new car last week and on the paperwork they gave me it says that they cannot guarantee the mileage of the car. Now this is obviously not aimed at a new car but I think the paperwork would be for used cars so that if in the future you go back to them saying it has 'lost' some miles they can't be held liable. I know years ago a few second hand car dealers that I used to deal with always put a sticker over the mileage saying they could not guarantee that the mileage was correct.Cheers Ian

and before anybody asks the MSV2 can't do it
and i don't think its just the IPK on a D3 think its stored somewhere else aswell
My first Audi had to have its clock changed fairly new in its life and the mileage went back to zero - lost about 10K miles. All legal though as it was done by the dealer.Mark.

It was a dealer (not LR).... done before they had it .... as it was all done in 2009/10
It appears it doesnt matter ..... CA say they should still have let me know or checked it
We'll see though .... when I went round this morning..... let them blurb on ....
Then showed them the printed copies of the recall sheet from LR and the MOT history with all the evidence on ...
They said they would return to me within 48 hours D4 Front upgrade/cut back wings n things 'taking a long time but getting there'.
